The Municipality of Rethymnon, the Regional Unit of Rethymnon and the Chamber of Rethymnon every year holds one of its oldest cultural events, the “Cretan Diet Festival”. The Festival is clearly oriented towards the promotion of award-winning Cretan products, especially the local wine.

The Cretan Diet is described as the healthiest, since it is based on fresh fruits, vegetables and legumes, as well as fresh fish and dairy products. The festival, which is held every July, offers a week full of flavours, colours and music and presents high quality Cretan products. During the events are offered:

1. Cretan Products Exhibition
2. Food and wine seminars where visitors can learn from experts about their production methods, characteristics, high quality standards and health benefits
3. Special menus offered by restaurants and hotels using local products as raw materials
4. Numerous cultural events with the participation of well-known local artists as well as artists from the rest of Greece.
